Andrea Berkey CPD

My name is Andrea Berkey. I am a certified, full time postpartum doula.

When it was time to start our family, my husband and I came up with a plan for a specific birth experience. We prepared extensively for the birth we envisioned. We read all the books, took all the classes. As can happen, our first birth ended dramatically different than we had intended. We ended that first birth experience with a healthy, beautiful baby boy, but after the emotional journey of that first experience, we knew that we needed a different kind of education. We needed someone who could answer questions we didn't even think to ask yet, someone who would advocate for US. We needed a doula! Subsequently, supported by my awesome doula, my husband and I then felt empowered, knew what questions to ask, and felt able to make evidence-based choices. We were well supported through birth start to finish and beyond. It was after the birth of my third, then keenly aware of the differences between each of my birth experiences that I was inspired to help other families find their way through the birth and postpartum experience in the same way.

I wanted to help families navigate choices and to help them ask the right questions. I knew then that my calling was to help pass on the intimate knowledge of birth and newborn care. I began my doula journey as a birth doula, but quickly realized that a new mom just home with a newborn needs an advocate too. I saw what a profound impact good support for a new mother can do. How helping families settle into their new role as parents had long lasting benefits. I am now dedicated to serving new and growing Bay Area families' postpartum needs.

About My Vision

I am thrilled to be the one who now offers nurturing, attentive care and guidance to new moms during their pregnancies, childbearing and postpartum periods. I love supporting women through this highly emotional, and life changing time. I have already been on the journey of motherhood and have racked up years of trial and error experience, worked through certifications, and taken countless classes. I am excited to now pass this on, to be the one now to teach new mothers the tips and tricks of the “trade”. Helping them overcome anxiety, negativity, or doubt to settle quickly and confidently into the role of motherhood, and to lend a much needed extra hand to today’s professional and busy moms. It is my objective to provide women and their families with unconditional support during all phases of the postpartum period. To help empower new mothers and their partners through care, support, and education. To help families feel confident in their choices. To help establish skills needed for families to continue to provide informed attentive care for infants, creating a firm foundation on which to build. It is my goal to support this transition into motherhood through encouragement, education and support.

Providing care for infants/children and their families since 2006, I am honored to have been chosen to care for little ones of local Livermore families through my early licensed daycare program, as a care provider and nanny, and to have been invited to witness and be a part of 22 Bay Area births. As a full time postpartum doula since 2011, it has been a profound joy assisting families of all kinds all over the San Francisco Bay Area find confidence as new parents, providing them with support and education.

I am infant/child CPR certified, fully insured, Trustline Certified, and conform to today’s vaccination standards for childcare. I received my postpartum doula certification and lactation training through Cornerstone Doula Trainings in 2011, and I continue to educate myself in all areas of birth, newborn, and family care and hold certificates in a wide range of subjects.
